The purpose of this song was to tell a story about his love life that was almost defeated by his fear. The audience for this song would have to be people that enjoy listening to songs about love and enjoy listening to the genre pop music but his song also hit the number 1 chart hits in the many countries of Europe. James Arthur has been trying to expand his audience as majority of the people that probably listen to this song are teens and college students, or even people that just listen to the radio. It was also directed to the girl he was singing about throughout his song. The rhetorical appeal of pathos is evoked throughout this song by James Arthur making the audience feel certain emotions towards love and relationships. James connects his tone of voice to the music very well by expanding his vocals more at the chorus and having a more serious tone when singing about what he wants to do with this girl.
The acoustic instruments and beats in the background really help with showing the audience his style for this certain song. The sing is written as love story with a romantic backstory and that he tells about this girl and proceeds to sing about how she makes him feel and what he wants to accomplish with her. His music video of the song shows him singing relaxed in joyful atmosphere with parts of the video showing two people enjoying a relationship which all adds to the romantic air of the video.
