In most cases the book always turn out better than the movies. Mainly because books go more in depth with details as a movie has to shorten and dumb things down to fit in a certain amount of time. Books are easily able to be long because of it being text based as movies take a visual perspective of the book to show people how scenes can be acted out. The movie the Notebook is a good example of having the opposite effect on people. The movie was way better than the book because you got to see from a visual side how the story went. When reading a book you can make up in your head what the scene could look like but actually watching it puts the story in a whole different perspective. The movie The Notebook was able to show a lot the relationship and the emotions that came from the storyline. It is definitely a tear jerker movie and just from reading the book the same effect is not always given. Some there have been some cases where movies are better than the book, it really just depends on the story and how much thought the producers of the movies have in making them have a significant but better difference.
