Narrative Genre

Narratives help us make sense of our lives and connect with others. We can experience them through movies, books, social media and the news. Stories are being shared everyday. The narrative genre I choose to analyze is the fairy tale, "The Three Little Pigs." The purpose of this piece is to teach a moral lesson but to do so while entertaining the readers. The audience for this narrative would be created for children to tell a fairy tale, but could also be for adults who read the stories to their children and elementary school teachers who read to their students. The story is easy for children and young readers to understand and remember, which is part of the reason why this traditional fairy tale is so well known around the world. The rhetorical appeals used would definitely be pathos as the story is trying to teach a moral lesson and tap into young readers emotions. Ethos is even used in this genre by the author starting the fairy tale off by saying "once upon a time." The mode for this narrative genre is written as the media is print. This fairy tale could easily be remediated by adapting the story into a movie, or displaying the story by audio instead of print and text.
